In 2018 Corbel Interiors was asked to install this wallpaper in the stairway at Jovanina's Italian restaurant. I not only did, but I did it in a way that people don't notice. The wallpaper is from FlavorPaper out of New York. It's called, "About Face". It is a 54 inch wide copper mylar that changes color in different lighting. Like the silver mylar balloons you see at birthday parties. It is also a 5th drop match. Meaning that if you layed out 5 pieces along a wall, the first piece and the 5th piece would be the same pattern as each other and all of the sheets in between would be different patterns from each other but with all patterns matching. Number 2 and 6 would be the same pattern as well, but matching 1 and 5 and so on, for example. The other challenge that I had was that the wallpaper sheets only came 18 feet long and the ceiling is 25 feet long. My dilemma was that certain mirrors in the pattern ran across the top of the white wall at the bottom of the wallpaper as you go down the stairs and look to your left. I had to have the correct mirror to match in the bottom left hand corner of the celling where it meets the wall that I just installed and ride along the bottom of the ceiling "wall" too. So when you walk down the stairs, you see the same mirrors matching on the bottom of the wall on the left all the way across the wall as well as the mirrors on the bottom of the ceiling "wall" all the way across the bottom. In order to do this, I had to do some tricky math to figure out where I start my pattern on the top of the ceiling at the top of the stairs, going down the stairs and adding a matching 7 foot long piece to it that will match that bottom left hand corner and double cutting it in horizontally. Not only did I have to deal with all of this, but the ceiling was about 72 inches wide and the wallpaper is 54 inches wide. So I had to do it all again and match the 2 new 18 inch wide sheets up and double cut them in also. Vertically all the way down and again horizontally across. I was successful in doing all this and the install turned out perfect. I won 7th place in the nation for this difficult install and this stairway is now a famous spot for getting your photo taken when visiting Denver or for social media posts. The stairway leads to a speak easy environment that serves food, wine and cocktails downstairs. Can't say much about the food here, but the atmosphere is amazing!
